Sweet Mother is a solo exhibition by Karl Ohiri that brings together a collection of autobiographical works that deal with the artist coming to terms with his mother's life and death. The exhibition takes its title from the popular 70s hit Sweet Mother, a song by the Nigerian artist Prince Nico Mbarga that has become an anthem to celebrate motherhood throughout Nigeria and beyond.

Using the camera as a tool to reconcile fears, fantasies and desires the artist takes the audience on an intimate journey of love, loss and regrets, inviting the viewer into the private space of a mother-and-son relationship while reminding us of its universal relevance.

The exhibition premiered at Omenka Gallery in Lagos in 2016 and was jointly funded by the Arts Council England and the British Council Nigeria/UK intiative - a one year cultural programme aimed at building new networks, audiences and collaborations between the two countries.
